My Top 5 Ways To Celebrate the 4th of July In the Iowa City Area

Today is the 4th of July! I know I’m looking forward to a day of fun and relaxation with my family–aren’t you? Maybe you’re still looking for some ideas for things to do, so today I’m sharing five of my favorite things to do in the Iowa City area for the 4th of July.

4th of July activities in the iowa city area

1. Head to the pool

What kid doesn’t love to spend the day splashing in the water? Check out our Guide to Local Pools and Splash Pads for all the details you’d need to know!

2. Go to the beach

If your kids like to build sand castles along with swimming, then head to the lake! Check out our Guide to Iowa City Area Beaches, and pick your favorite spot for a little fun in the sun. Take a picnic and make a day of it!

3. Check out Coralville’s 4thFest

They have a TON of events going on at S.T. Morrison Park and surrounding areas, including a pancake breakfast, parade, food, games, concerts, and more. This is always a great event for the family!

4. Have a backyard BBQ

One of the best things about the 4th of July, next to celebrating and appreciating all those who have made it possible for us to live in a free country, is spending time with family and friends. Maybe you want to hang out at home, fire up the grill, set up some backyard games, and just enjoy a low-key day at home. If so, make sure to check out our grilling recipes and our favorite red, white, and blue recipes to make your bbq a success!!

5. Take in the fireworks

It’s not the 4th of July without fireworks! We usually head to Coralville to watch them, near S.T. Morrison Park. Make sure to head over early, take some snacks and blankets/chairs, and your bug spray!
