Re-Cap: Playdate at Wilson’s Orchard!

244Last week we enjoyed a BEAUTIFUL morning playdate at Wilson’s Apple Orchard.  We have to admit, we were a little worried about a) the heat index being in the triple digits all week long, and b) Kaitlyn being a mere two weeks from her due date!  But, alas, the Iowa City Moms Blog followers proved their loyalty (and their love of playdates!) and we were happy to spend the morning with a group of nearly EIGHTY!

We want to give a BIG thank you to Wilson’s for welcoming our group out to the orchard for such a fun-filled playdate.  Their location is truly beautiful, with rolling hills, giant weeping willow trees, and (of course) rows and rows of delicious apples hanging from the trees! Our guests enjoyed a tractor ride out and around the orchard, an apple-sampling demonstration, and free apple turnovers for everyone!  What a treat!

258As with every ICMB event, we absolutely love to watch all of you local moms meet each other and make new friends, all while enjoying kid-friendly activities at local businesses/locations.  THIS is our goal here at the blog, to connect moms and deepen the sense of community among us.

Thursday’s orchard playdate was definitely deepening the mom community…if you can bounce around on a tractor with a fellow mom, attempting to hold on to flying children and dropped sippy cups, all while sweating profusely and praying that you used enough deodorant, then I think it’s safe to say the two of you can become friends!

255Many of the moms (and especially the kiddos) were walking around sipping on apple cider slushies (perfect on a hot, late-August morning) and dragging full-to-the-brim bags of delicious apples to their mini-vans.  I (Sara) heard talk of some plans to make pies over the holiday weekend, and although it sounded like a great plan to me, I was happy to instead take home a Crumble Top Apple Pie made fresh at Wilson’s!  I was tempted to put it in the oven as soon as I got home on Thursday, but I resisted the temptation and saved it for our family dinner on Saturday afternoon.  My family literally devoured the pie.  The orchard was gracious enough to send me home with a complimentary pie, and we wanted to share that delicious treat with you as well.  That’s right:  Wilson’s has a FREE PIE waiting for one lucky reader of the Iowa City Moms Blog!
