Farewell, Adieu, So Long… See You Soon!

A lot of us do it.

We don’t mean to, but we do.

I definitely know I’m guilty!

Sure, we have such good intentions, but life gets busy. (And truth be told, I get lazy.)

Five children looking down into the camera screamingWhen that school bell rings and the kiddos are finally released for summer break, we make plans to meet up with our other Mommy friends. We chat about weekly play-dates at the park, girls’ days at the poolside, and Moms nights out.

But as the weeks roll on, other things come up. Kids catch summer colds. There are a billion tasks to do around the house (after all, the children are there all day every day.) Road trips and vacations are mapped out. And swim-lessons, camps, and little league eat up whatever break you have left.

Before you know it, you’re scouring back-to-school ads for the best sales while kids pack their backpacks and set out first-day-of-school outfits.

Ahhh. Summer is over and you never met up with the gals. Disappointment sinks in.

Friends Photographing ThemselvesWell, this year, I’m vowing to make it a priority to regularly get together with my fellow Mommy peeps. I mean, goodness, summer is when we NEED those breaks! Of course we love and adore our children… but for the sake of our sanity, we deserve some getaways! (Absence makes the heart grow fonder, am I right?!)

So, I’ll give every effort to not say “goodbye” to my friends for 3 months and, instead, say “see you soon!” And I’ll mean it; I won’t make excuses! Building those relationships and investing in them is important. Mommyhood is exhausting and daunting and we need each other’s support. I won’t be a slacker!

I encourage you to make your own personal pledge to grow your friendships this summer. Don’t let your fellow Mommies slip to the wayside. They need you! You need them! =)

Side note: With rather peculiar irony, I must announce my final farewell. It has been such an honor to write for the Iowa City Moms Blog, but alas, my time as a contributor has come to an end. I have chosen to step down, well… simply because I have never had a love for writing. I just wanted to be sure and say a quick thank you to all you AWESOME readers for hanging in there with me since the beginning and for your continued patience as I attempted to grasp this whole “blogging thing.” For real, a sincere shout out to you guys because you all rock and without you, there’d be no us! And special thanks to Kaitlyn and Sara and our amazing writing team for the opportunity to share some of my crazy, chaotic ramblings with this community of Moms. It was such a fun and rewarding experience and I look forward to seeing all of your lovely faces at future events and meetups.

So I suppose this is not really a “goodbye”… but rather “see you soon!” 😉

Tara
Stay-at-home-Momma to 3 rambunctious, but adorable kiddos, and wife to her talented husband, Gabriel, Tara spends most of her days in a hectically blessed world! Her two boys, Simeon (6) and Solomon (5), and sassy 3-year-old daughter, Surion, help keep her on her toes. She is proud to call Kalona her home and settled in quickly after moving from central Iowa a few years ago to launch a ministry in the IC area. Her family is an avid supporter of all the local “Hawks”… Go Black and Gold! She claims that exercise is not her strong suit, but continues to condition her body (mostly through running) in hopes that one day, it will come naturally to her. She enjoys being creative through crafting and DIY projects, and admits that her body is a canvas and artistic outlet with her many tattoos and piercings. Tara has a special place in her heart for “finding a good deal,” and can often be found scouring local thrift stores for all sorts of wonderful treasures! She is truly passionate about litter-removal and recycling and hopes her obsession will rub off on the munchkins so they can lead a “clean” life in their future. Lastly, and most importantly, Tara has a heart for the Lord and is thrilled to be involved with her community MOPs group. =)
