Get your Style Fix with Stitch Fix

Not to sound weird, but what are you wearing right now?

Is it a pair of black yoga pants?

A t-shirt with your high school mascot?

Or is it the house sweater that hasn’t been washed since 2000?

Yeah, about a year and half ago I was right there with you. Unable to fit into my “cute” clothes because the baby weight just seemed to be hanging around, and shopping with little kids is an impossible task even for Mary Poppins.

I was  a pretty sad sight.

Especially when I look back on my days as a former fashionista.

When I was younger my grandmother and I would go shopping. That was our “thing”. We would spend hours at the mall, looking for cute outfits, trying on clothes, shoes and accessories. We had so much fun.

Then life happened and the kids happened and now I’m just grateful to find time to throw together mac and cheese let alone cruise the mall looking for work clothes, or even a t-shirt without chocolate stains. Not only did my wardrobe suffer but so did my self-confidence.

I was a living breathing female version of sweat-pant-wearing George Costanza – luckily I don’t own any velvet yoga pants.

“Ugh, I wish I had my own personal stylist that would come to my house and help me find something to wear,” I lamented one day while staring into the vastness of my not-so-stylish closet.

Then like a miracle my wish was granted.

Enter Stitch Fix – my own personal stylist.

Stitch Fix 3

You have probably heard about Stitch Fix during a playdate or on the rare occasion you are out with your mom friends, but what is it exactly?

Well, here’s how it works.

1. Complete your style profile

The stylists at Stitch Fix provide a questionnaire to provide them with more information about your style {ie: Bohemian, Trendy, Work, Casual, Glam, et.}, sizing, price point and you can even link to your fashion Pinterest Board.

2. Each month you will receive a box with FIVE hand picked items.

These items include skirts, pants, shirts, sweaters, handbags, jewelry, scarves and outwear.

3. Keep what you like and send back the rest.

There is a monthly $20 “styling” fee, which is applied to what you keep from your fix. Keep everything and receive 25% your entire purchase. Returns are FREE and Stitch Fix includes a postal bag to send everything back.

Stitch Fix 1

It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3…

I was apprehensive at first.

Mostly because of the price, but I found that the items they send are unique quality pieces, unlike my Target grab and go t-shirts, so I’m willing to pay more. Plus I’m actually saving money, because I’m not distracted by lots of shiny things at the mall.

As for what I’ve received in my fix.

Stitch Fix 2

There have been a couple of fix flops {too small, not the right style, etc.} But overall, the stylists do a fabulous job. What I found interesting is that with each fix you receive the next one gets better. It’s all because when you pick what to keep and what return they give you the option to include comments like “I don’t think these jeans were made for my 40 year old butt” or “please don’t send me anything with stripes”.

There’s also a place for notes. So if you have an event coming up and need something special or you are looking for a specific style or piece let them know and they will do their best to accommodate your requests.

Personally I’m in L-O-V-E with the style cards they send for each item. Each card gives two ways to style your item and they even include sweet notes from the stylist.

Stitch Fix 4

I’ve been getting my fix for over a year now. It’s amazing how much my wardrobe has changed and my self-confidence. I feel stylish, put together and I no longer stand in my closet wondering what to wear. Instead, I can’t wait to get dressed in the morning.
