The Fossil Guy: “Survival Among the Mammals”, 2:00 p.m. @ Macbride Auditorium.  A wide variety of mammals roamed North America during the Oligocene Age approximately 30 million years ago, and their remains are preserved as fossils in the White River Badlands of South Dakota, Nebraska, and Wyoming.  A mystery “to the death” battle between two of these mammals, Hyracodon and Hyaenodon, will be revealed.  Learn about many extinct herbivores including oreodonts, hornless rhinos, giant pig-like entelodonts, and three-toed horses!  To conclude the program, Don will share some of his experiences hunting for these fossil mammals in Nebraska.  Free.

Sunday, November 9th

Yahoo Drummers Percussion Session, 4:00-5:00 p.m. @ the Robert A. Lee Rec Center.  Join Iowa City’s Yahoo Drummers for a percussion session that just follows the spirit, using a variety of exotic-named percussion instruments and drums for participants to try: shakers, djembes, dumbeks, afuches, congas, guiros. Learn rhythms, techniques, and mindsets, but most importantly learn how to listen to one another and blend in with the whole group to create a joyful, purposeful sound. Free.
