It’s about that time to start switching my little one from a bottle to a sippy cup. We have not practiced much with sippies. To be honest, I’ve been lazy. But I have a reason.
Sippy cups DRIVE. ME. CRAZY!!!
First of all, the sippy cup aisle in Walmart and Target overwhelms me. There are 1000 different choices of little kids’ cups. Soft spouts, hard spouts, straws, valves, handles, no handles, insulated, click-lock, twist ‘n click… Does anyone else feel like their head is spinning?
Each cup has a certain way it has to be put together. The arrows must line up. You must hear the click. You also need to teach your husband, grandparents, sitters, etc., how to put the cup together right or your poor kiddo will not get the drink out correctly.
And what gets me most of all….Spill-Proof…Leak-proof…No spill. LIES! LIES! LIES!
This is not my first sippy-cup rodeo. My oldest has tried all of these cups over the past couple years. None of them were faves, so they ended up in a box. And we had even more, but those were the well-worn ones that had cracks and chewed valves, so they were recycled. {I could not stand those well-worn cups. I don’t even know what they were called. But they leaked all over the place.}
I know it’s crazy that I saved all of these cups when we didn’t like them the first time. And packed them up and moved them to a new house. But…every kid is different. Maybe our littlest will take to one of them.
In reality, how many of these cups will I offer him? Probably not many. Truth is, I will buy more new cups.
Which bring me to… ICMB readers, I need your help! I can’t go back to that aisle alone… without a plan! And I don’t want to waste money on more useless cups. Which sippy cups work well for your little ones?
Thanks for letting me rant about sippy cups! I do have a little good news! I discovered Kids ‘N’ Pets Stain & Odor Remover works great to clean up stains on furniture from leaky cups. {This is not sponsored, just my opinion!} We use the footrest from our rocking chair like a table and set bottles on it all the time. So, it got pretty stained. I sprayed this cleaner, let it sit for about 10 minutes, then wiped it with a paper towel. And now it looks so much better! {If you try it, be sure to test an inconspicuous spot first!}

I hate sippy cups!! It was such a blessing to get away from the bottle – but my goodness, sippy cup manufactures are sure in the business of snowing over mom’s and dad’s. We tried all the sippy cups on the market (our stash looked very similar to yours), none of them worked. We eventually moved to the Take and Toss brand exlusively and haven’t moved back. Their leak is slow enough that it won’t leak too much. (Note they do not advertise that they prevent spills in anyway! – if nothing else, I appreciate the honesty!) We used it as the opportunity to help teach on how to clean up messes as well to only place drinks on hard surfaces – our litte ones even know to use cup holders on wood furniture. It’s not the best plan, but it works for us. Thanks for the tip on the cleaner – will be trying some of that!!! Good luck:)

Def the take and toss and we use camelbak water bottles. I don’t like sippy cups either.

Sippy cups are the devil! I already have more sippy cups for my son than months of his age (he’s 14 mos, btw). None of them work. He either can’t figure out how to tip it far enough back to drink from it (so then it gets tossed around in frustration) or the straw is too hard to suck any liquid through, and I have tried it too… it’s impossible (see comment on tossing in frustration). He goes to a Montessori school and they use regular glasses (they’re so tiny they could double as shot glasses later on) and I’ve just been giving him those with meals. Sometimes he dumps it on his tray but at least he’s not getting the mess everywhere. If anyone finds a miracle sippy cup, I’d like to know too!

I generally use the nalgene bottles. They have yet to leak for me!! I have also recently discovered the munchkin miracle 360 cups too.
