Moms Morning Out: Meet the Experts!!

Iowa City Moms Blog is so proud to partner with The Family Dental Center and South Slope Cooperative to bring you our 2nd Annual Moms Morning Out along with La Montessori Nurtury on August 29th from 10:00-1:00 at South Slope Community Center! If you’re expecting or have a child age infant through elementary school, this event is especially for you!! Wondering what to expect when you go in for delivery? Or how to handle an unexpected hospitalization? Curious as to when your child needs to start brushing their teeth? Or when sleepless nights should be a cause for concern? Write your questions down while you’re thinking about them and bring your notes along to the event!

Meet the Moms Morning Out Expert Panel

Obstetrics and Gynecology

Rachel Maassen, MD, MBA Dr. Maassen has been part of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics since 2002.  She specializes in Obstetrics and minimally invasive Gynecology. She is a native Iowan and a mother of 3. Her favorite thing about her practice is getting to know so many amazing women throughout their lives. She enjoys being able to assist in some of life’s most crucial moments, both the ups and the downs. No day is ever the same and she likes it that way! In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and exercise.


Maternal Fetal Medicine

Heather Anaya, D.O., F.A.C.O.G.  Dr. AnayaDr. Anaya grew up in Michigan City, Indiana, and received her medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. She went on to complete her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. She completed additional fellowship training in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.  Anaya’s practice includes high risk obstetrics, prenatal diagnosis, labor and delivery, and being an educator for medical students, residents and fellows. Anaya greatly enjoys taking care of women with high risk pregnancies in that every single day of her career is rewarding, inspiring and humbling. Outside of work, Anaya enjoys spending time with her husband Jorge and her daughter Chloe. They are adding to their family with a baby boy due this fall. The Anaya family loves running (baby jogger and all!), soccer and travel. As a mom herself, Anaya shares with her patients a deep understanding of the joys, surprises and challenges of pregnancy and life beyond the postpartum time.


Pediatric Hospitalist

Kelly Wood, MD, FAAP Dr. WoodDr. Wood received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Iowa. She completed her pediatric residency training at the University of Minnesota. In 2010, she returned to Iowa as a pediatric hospitalist, providing care in the newborn nursery and pediatric inpatient units at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She loves her job because of the great people she gets to work with and the relationships she develops with her patients and families.


Midwifery

Rebecca Winnike, MSN, ARNP, CNM

Ms. WinnikeMs. Winnike received her Masters Degree in Nursing from The University of Texas at Galveston. She had a private practice for 15 years, but missed the academic environment. She joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in January 2015, and is the director of the Midwifery service. She loves the variety in caring for women throughout their lifetime. Outside of work she enjoys cooking and traveling with her husband and four children.



Dentistry

Greg Gilbaugh, DDS Dr. GilbaughHello.  I am Dr. Greg Gilbaugh.  I attended the University of Iowa on a football scholarship which provided me with many great memories, (along with a couple degenerative knees).  I graduated from the University of Iowa  College of Dentistry in 1985, and completed residency training in Advanced General Dentistry in 1986.  I founded The Family Dental Center with a desire to bring together a team of highly skilled and caring people that would share in the vision of providing an exceptional dental experience for individuals and their families as well as having a positive impact on our community.  I have been married to my best friend Laura since 1985, and we live here in Coralville along with our nine children.  I am also a follower of Jesus Christ which provides me the privilege of being part of the pastoral team at Grace Community Church in North Liberty, Iowa.


Mental Health/Developmental Disabilities

Royann Mraz, MD Dr. MrazDr. Mraz is a developmental and behavioral pediatrician and Medical Director of the Center for Disabilities and Development at UI Children’s Hospital. Dr. Mraz attended medical school at the University of Maryland and completed her pediatric residency at the Medical College of Virginia. She practiced general pediatrics for several years and then received additional training in Developmental Disabilities at the University of Iowa. Dr. Mraz evaluates and treats children and adolescents with ADHD, autism and other developmental disabilities. She has two grown children.


Pediatric Chiropractic

Chris Grier, DC Chris GrierChris Grier is a Wellness Chiropractor and Educator who practices at Bright Futures Chiropractic in Kalona, IA. He is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa and Northwestern Health Sciences University. Dr. Grier is dedicated to pediatric and family chiropractic with a mission to help revitalize the lives of the families he serves. Formally trained in pediatric and prenatal Chiropractic by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, Dr. Grier is committed to helping families Thrive.

Kaitlyn Swaim
Kaitlyn is the owner of Cedar Rapids Moms Blog and is an Iowa girl who has been married to her husband, Joshua, since 2007! She’s a busy work-at-home mama to their 5 children: 3 girls and 2 boys! A true Hawkeye, she graduated from the University of Iowa with her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, something that comes in handy on a daily basis while trying to raise 5 kids! Her favorite things to do include spending time with her family, cheering on the Hawkeyes, reading a good book, shopping (of course!), and checking out all the activities the Corridor has to offer!
