Guide to Fall Family Events in the Iowa City Area

School is back in session, football season is here, and Halloween is just around the corner. Fall can be a busy time, but there’s also so much to enjoy in our area! Take a look at these family-friendly fall activities and choose a few to try out!

What: 9th Annual Fry Fest: A Celebration of All That Is Hawkeye. Activities and events include: Blood drive, Hawkeye Collector’s Showcase, World’s Largest Hawkeye Tradeshow, Hall of Fame Inductee Panel Discussion and Autograph Session, I-Club Luncheon w/Coach Ferentz, Hawkeye Fashion Show, Men’s and Women’s Basketball Alumni Panels and Autograph Sessions, Bags Tournament, High Porch Block Party, Live Music, and Fireworks. What: Stage production of Footloose The Musical. Based on the movie from the 1984 (and re-make in 2011), this is the story of Ren and his mother moving from Chicago to a small farming town, and Ren isn’t prepared for the local ban on dancing. After each Saturday night show, follow the actors out to the courtyard for a dance party! The bar is open, the music is playing…you won’t be able to keep from dancing!

What: October Improv presents The Legend of the Dancing Teakettle. Join us as we bring stories to life! Using a variety of drama techniques, each week we will animate, inhabit, and live a story. These drama sessions are by AmyRuth McGraw and students from University of Iowa. Don’t miss this dramatic retelling of The Legend of the Dancing Teakettle. Spots are limited for the workshop, so register now! Today the storytime room will become the countryside of Japan. How we journey through the space will be up to you. The workshop is from 2-3pm.
