One day, probably sooner than later, my three-year-old will begin asking questions like, “Mommy, how did you meet Daddy?”

Simple question, right? Except that our love story needs a little editing for a G-rated audience.

My love story, adapted for young audiences:

Once upon a time (13 years ago), Mommy was a beautiful, young, (thin) 20-year-old college student. And Daddy was a handsome 21-year-old college student. We went to a small school, but had never met until one night when Daddy had a party at his house and invited lots of friends to come over. Mommy and her friends got dressed up all fancy to go to the party.

That night when Mommy walked in and saw Daddy, her heart skipped a beat. When Mommy looked into Daddy’s big blue eyes and shook his hand, there was a magical feeling. 

From that night on, Mommy and Daddy have always been together. After many years and lots and lots of dates, FINALLY once we had both graduated from college, Daddy asked Mommy to marry him. Then a few years after our wedding, a stork brought us a baby boy and a few years after that, another baby boy. And we all lived happily ever after. 

Harmless adaptation, right!?

The real story involves WAY too many things I don’t care to explain ANY time soon! Like… Daddy’s party was a kegger. There was underage drinking (I was only 20). We lived together for five years before marriage. And I can almost hear the next question… “Mommy, where do babies come from?”

Good thing my husband is full of answers! When the questions get tough, I will be calling for backup from… Super Dad! We are a team. He is level headed, caring and hard working. He is my rock. I am going to get all cheesy and quote Jerry McGuire on you, he “completes me” and basically, “had me at hello.”

June is a BIG month for my husband. Father’s Day. His Birthday. And our wedding anniversary.

So to save a little money on gifts and show him how special he is, I decided to make him something for Father’s Day.

 Since we moved a month ago and are trying to decorate, I thought it would be a great idea to make him a “Super Dad” sign to put in his office. (You’ve heard about my craft store problems before!)

I’m sure any dad would love a sign that says he’s SUPER!

SUPER DAD Canvas Father’s Day Craft 

Materials: 

Hazel & Ruby reusable letter stencils (Found them at Michael’s)

1 blank canvas 8×8 canvas (Or any size you’d like)

Mod Podge

Acrylic Paint (I used black)

1 piece of scrapbook paper

Foam paintbrush

 

Instruction:

1. Cut scrapbook paper to fit on canvas.

2. Use a foam brush to paint Mod Podge onto the canvas.

3. Stick the scrapbook paper to the canvas. Smooth out bubbles and wrinkles. Let it dry!

4. Paint a layer of Mod Podge on top of the scrapbook paper. Let it dry!

5. Attach the letter stencils to spell out SUPER DAD. Press letters down firmly. 

6. Apply a layer of acrylic paint over the entire canvas and letters.

7. While the paint is still wet, use a pin to gently lift the letters off the canvas. (Stick the letters back on their sheet and clean them off with baby wipes and paper towel)

8. Let it dry.

TA-DA! 

Well…It looked A LOT better in my head. I think there is a learning curve here. I’m a Mod Podge rookie and the stencils might take a little practice.

So my advice… let your kids help you with the painting and sticking on the letters. Then no matter what, your Super Dad will LOVE it!

Unfortunately, I get to take all the credit for this one. But, if you stand back about 6 feet, it looks pretty good. It’s the thought that counts, right!
