Blogger Dash 5K
Did you know that our 5K run/walk is just ONE MONTH AWAY? We are so excited to bring this amazing family-friendly event to all of you again this year, and special thanks to our co-host for 2014, The Family Dental Center! Same as last year, Blogger Dash and all activities associated with the race will take place at Lower City Park, shelter 12. Race begins promptly at 9am on Saturday, October 4th.
If you haven’t registered yet, be sure to do so! {click here to register} Don’t forget, ALL skill levels are welcome for this race: runners, beginning runners, joggers, walkers, moms (or dads) with strollers, ALL of you! No matter how long it takes you to finish it, the important part is that you FINISH, and we will be there cheering you on! The 5K begins at 9am, but please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early to get signed in/stretch/find a place at the starting line.
Kids Races
Last year, the highlight of the morning just had to be watching those sweet little kiddos cross the finish line and get their medals! We will once again be hosting a 1/4 mile and 1 mile race for all of your little ones, which will take place at 10am. If you will not be there for the 5K but plan to come for the kids races, please arrive at least 15 minutes early to allow us time to get the kids organized and ready to run. Both kids races are FREE to run, but please register your child so we have a number to prepare for. Also, if the kids would like a t-shirt from the race, those can be purchased on the registration page for $10.
Post-Race Activities & Health Fair
Don’t plan on leaving as soon as you cross the finish line of the 5K, because we have plenty more in store for you! In addition to post-race refreshments, we will also have cool down sessions from the ladies at Jazzercise Iowa City and post-race chair massages from the amazing staff at Massage Heights! Both Jazzercise and Massage Heights are joining us as a part of our Health Fair, which will take place both during and after the 5K, as well as during/after the Kids Races.
Also joining us for the Health Fair are our friends at The Family Dental Center, the U of I Children’s Hospital Safety Store, and Running Wild Iowa City. These booths will be filled with experts, ready to chat about your health/safety/wellness questions as a family, so don’t miss it!
Late Registration
Registration for Blogger Dash with a technical t-shirt (which is awesome, by the way!) ends on Thursday, September 18th at midnight. All runners/walkers who register after September 18th will not receive a t-shirt with your registration fee. The absolute final date to register for the race is Wednesday, October 1st. After this date, we will not accept any more online registrations, and there will be no race-day registration. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Packet Pick-Up
Packet pick up for the 5K (and any kids who ordered a t-shirt) will be Friday, October 3rd from 5-7pm at Running Wild Iowa City (located at 121 E. Washington Street, downtown Iowa City). Please stop by to pick up your packet and your “goodie bag” (provided by the University of Iowa Community Credit Union) to avoid long check-in lines on race day.
Run for a Cause
As always, we at the Iowa City Moms Blog love giving back to our community. At Moms Night Outs, we bring in donations for local charities, and watching those boxes fill up as the ladies come out for the evening truly humbles us and reminds us to think of others in our community, no matter what the occasion. For that reason, a portion of Blogger Dash proceeds will be going directly to the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. Let us never forget the AMAZING children’s hospital that we are so blessed to have (literally) in our backyard! A big shout out to all of the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Children’s Hospital who help countless families and children each year, and thank you to all of you Blogger Dash runners who will be contributing this year. Remember to send some happy thoughts to the hospital staff and patients/patient’s families when you are running/walking/jogging on October 4th!
