The Hard Working, Caring Husband

I hate nature! There, I said it! Which makes what I am about to say next truly wonderful.

We moved into our home this past February during a huge snowstorm. Now that the snow has melted and the weather is more pleasant, I began noticing something every time I pulled in my driveway– our home has NO curb appeal. My husband, being the wonderful man he is, decided it would be the first project to get done. While Brian does recognize our front yard could use some sprucing up, I am sure working outside on the weekend was not on his wish list. Especially since, as I previously mentioned, I dislike nature.

Nevertheless, we went to Lowe’s and Menard’s to purchase, flowers, rocks, and stone edgers. I am sure this goes without saying, but I do not have a green thumb. We spent the majority of Memorial Day Weekend working in our front yard. By we, I mean my wonderful, amazing husband Brian, who is working outside as we speak to try and get it finished.

I was out there last weekend for a few hours helping shovel the mulch into yard waste bags and pull up what appeared to be some sort of black plastic which the mulch was initially laying on. (Don’t worry, my husband is laying down fresh plastic before placing the rock. I just don’t know the correct terminology for the stuff!) Standing out in the heat, sweating to death, while gnats are flying up my nose is anything but a good time! All the while I am standing on freshly uncovered dirt with bugs are crawling all around me! It made my skin crawl! Thank God my wonderful husband already sprayed around the outside of our house, so I don’t have to deal with any creepy crawlers entering my humble abode.

I feel as though this project is a true testament to just how much we love one another. I was out there in direct contact with dirt and bugs because I love and appreciate the fact that my husband would take the time and money to tackle a project I felt so strongly about. Especially one that requires so much time and energy! My husband was, and is, out there because he loves me and wants to make our home beautiful for me. Let’s be honest, most of the time our husbands could care less whether our homes are up-to-date. The real reason they start a project is because they love us enough to try and make our dreams come true.

Working alongside my husband for those few hours was a great experience. It reminded me of the team-building classes I took as a high school student. Although, this experience far exceeded those! So, as Father’s Day approaches, I am reminded not only what a wonderful father Brian is, but also what a wonderful husband he is.
