Weekend Wednesday: August 22-23

Yikes…school starts on Monday (for most districts).  Make it a great weekend and head on out with the family!  Here are my top picks!

Weekend Wednesday

Saturday, August 22nd

Princess Party at Hy-Vee on Waterfront in Iowa City 11:30-1 pm.  You get to meet the princesses, decorate cookies, play games and much much more!  A delicious lunch fit for a princess will be served for child and parent.  Register at Customer Service.  It is $30 for a child and parent and $5 for every additional child.

Drawing Closer: Celebrating Hancher’s Upcoming Opening 11-3 pm. Gather up your friends and family, and join us for a day of chalk art. Whether you simply marvel at the creations of professional artists or grab a piece of chalk yourself, you’ll have a memorable day as we look forward to the opening of the new Hancher facility in the fall of 2016. Food vendors and games will be a part of the party.  Also on hand: Squonk Opera—a band, a spectacle, an experience. The Squonkers will perform Pneumatica, an event about air, made of air, and powered by air. As the 40-foot inflatable Lady Pneumatica breathes, the music incorporates the swoops and eddies of air to create wild, captivating music, perfect for this day of celebration and anticipation.

Pneumatica performance times:

11:30 am – 12 noon
1 – 1:30 pm followed by a STEAM workshop
2:30 – 3 pm

Parking for Drawing Closer will be available in the Hancher parking lot. Those with accessibility needs can be dropped off at either the event gate along Park Road or at the gate adjacent to the Hancher parking lot.  This event is FREE!

Family Fest: Super Summer End 11-1 pm.  Come join the North Liberty Community Library in celebrating the end of summer with family friendly activities including a swoop in from several of our favorite superheroes, light refreshments & games.

Jack Neuzil’s dinosaurs are on display all weekend, a balloon artist is visiting the orchard, and face painting from 12 – 4 pm. Apples, turnovers, slushies, and donuts are always a great way to start a school year! Take a trailer ride to pick your own apples or get them pre-picked in our barn.  This event is also taking place on Sunday!

We will have a variety of bounce houses and inflatables, Jr. Firefighter activities and a mechanical bull for the kids. They’ll be delicious food and drinks for lunch and lots of emergency vehicles, for kids of all ages, to look through.
