Apple Orchards, Pumpkin Patches, and Playdates, Oh My!

Friends, as much as we love all things ICMB and all seasons of the year, there is a special place in our mom-blogger hearts for the annual Fall Playdates.  That crisp in the air, the leaves under our feet, and did we mention the boots and scarves? The best!

We are so grateful that Iowa City has such amazing activities for when Fall rolls around each year, and we are especially thankful for our friends at Wilson’s Apple Orchard and Colony Pumpkin Patch for hosting us as we meet up for our annual playdates.  Such a fun tradition, and we love sharing it with YOU, our readers!

Wilson’s Apple Orchard

This year’s trip to Wilson’s was more Summer than Fall, with temperatures nearing 90 degrees that day, but no complaints here! We enjoyed two tractor-rides through the property, with the usual “Go Bessie!” moments in the middle of the creek, and then we headed back to the picnic area to chow down on our delicious apple turnovers.  The kids had so much fun walking through the rows of beautiful trees, picking apples to put in their baskets.  And, to top it off, we held our playdate on a Wednesday this year, meaning that we were able to take home Wilson’s famous apple cider donuts for breakfast the next morning! (or for the drive home…)

fullsizerender-15Special thanks to the amazing staff at Wilson’s for hosting us each year, and for making it a morning that the kids talk about for the rest of the year!  If you haven’t made it out there yet this year, there’s still time!  Bring your kids in their costumes on the weekend of October 29-30, and they will get a special prize.  They will also have pumpkin donuts, hot apple cider, and of course, apples and pumpkins! Colony Pumpkin Patch

Another of our favorite places for Fall, Colony Pumpkin Patch is so convenient for many of our North Liberty followers, as it is literally right in the middle of town! We absolutely love all of the fun activities that Colony has to offer, in addition to, of course, picking pumpkins!

We were lucky enough to have the patch all to ourselves again this year, thanks to the wonderfully accommodating staff at Colony.  Our kiddos enjoyed rides on the barrel train, playing on all of the awesome playground equipment, bouncing in the bounce house, and playing in the corn box! They picked out their favorite pumpkin, posed for some super cute photos on the hay bales, and then headed home for a good long nap! (or so we hope!)

In addition to all of the little-kid fun, there is also plenty for the older kids and grown ups to enjoy!  Flashlight maze and zombie paintball on the weekends, and their upcoming Food Truck Rumble  (Sunday October 30th) to name a few! Be sure to check out their website and follow them on Facebook to stay up to date on everything they’re doing!
