The History of the Pancake

Do you know how many different varieties of pancakes there are?!  There are so many, I can’t even name them all! Every country has their own interpretation of the pancake. (Someday, I may just travel the world and try them all!)

A pancake is a thin batter made of flour, milk, and egg and fried until golden on a griddle. It has been said that pancakes were made up on a Shrove Tuesday (Mardi Gras) in order to use up some of the items people had before Ash Wednesday.

Pancakes are also called flapjacks, hotcakes, crepes, or griddle cakes. We eat them for breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays. If your birthday happens in the middle of the week, you’re in luck!  I’ll make you a pancake for breakfast!

Pancakes can be eaten with syrup, powdered sugar, fruit, or a creamy filling.  That is what is best about the pancake. It can be topped and filled with many different things! Check out some recipes below to make your own delicious pancake! These are easy for kids to help with, too!
