Enjoy FREE family fun during Iowa City RAGBRAI

Thousands of bicyclists will “Book it” to Iowa City on Friday, July 27 for the first overnight RAGBRAI stop in more than 40 years. Fun is planned for visiting cyclists and community members–and many of the activities are great for children and families! 

Wave and Welcome

Join Hawkeye and local high school cheerleaders to greet cyclists. Bring signs and noisemakers. Meet along Sand Road near the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area, 579 McCollister Blvd. Cheerleaders will be onsite from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., but community members are welcome to stop by anytime from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Movies, Movies, Movies! 

The Iowa City Public Library, 123 S. Linn St., will screen FIVE free movies beginning at noon. 

  • 12 p.m.: Pee Wee’s Big Adventure
  • 2 p.m.: Triplets of Belleville
  • 4 p.m.: The Flying Scotsman
  • 6 p.m.: For the Love of Mud
  • 7:30 p.m.: Breaking Away

The Iowa City Senior Center, 28 S. Linn St., will show three free movies starting at 9 a.m. 

  • 9 a.m.: Wadjda
  • 1 p.m.: Emmanuel’s Gift
  • 3 p.m.: Icarus

Kids Art Contest Display 

Visit the Iowa City Public Library, 123 S. Linn St., to view the submissions and winning piece for the RAGBRAI Kids Art Contest. The work is featured in the gallery space near the Children’s Room. Show your community spirit and vote for Iowa City’s local winner online.

Book it to Iowa City Bash 

Admission is FREE for kids (& adults who will not be consuming adult beverages outdoors). Enjoy live music on the main stage from 4 to 10 p.m. and side stage acts like breakdancing and a DJ competition from noon to 10 p.m. Yard games like giant Jenga and bags will line Dubuque Street.

The style of this event similar to the Downtown Block Party. Attendees who are 21+ (with a $10 wristband) will be consuming beer and other adult beverages outdoors in the designated party space. Snack and sip local flavors from your favorite downtown hotspots. Proceeds benefit the United Way of Johnson and Washington Counties. 

Outdoor Movie 

FilmScene will show the Iowa classic Field of Dreams at 8 p.m. in its alleyway outdoors. FREE admission! Don’t forget your lawn chair.
