Meet Our Contributors

Rebecca Anderson

Rebecca is a type-A wannabe with a pretty legit cookbook collection and likes a good Netflix binge. Her interests include sleep, napping, and snoozing her alarm. She is also a SAHM to two kiddoes (5, 2) and the proud wife of a resident at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She grew up in Milwaukee, WI but has also lived in Minnesota and Florida before coming to Iowa in 2014. Needless to say, she has a lot of teams represented in her t-shirt drawer! Rebecca worked in a preschool before deciding to stay home with her son so she loves to talk about education, children’s activities, and parenting littles. She stays active by teaching Wiggle Worms through the North Liberty Recreation Department and planning as many playdates as possible (Anyone free tomorrow at 10am??). On those rare nights when the stars align and the kids are asleep, the dishes are done, and the laundry is folded she likes to…yeah right, that never happens!

Bri Baranowski

Brianna is a California girl loving the Iowa way of life! She and her husband Ryan live in Marion with their four month old son Cal and gigantic Bernese mountain dog Marshall. She is a School Facilitator in Marion, and recently earned her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership through Drake University. Her husband is a professor at Coe College; they met at a bar seven years ago and have been madly in love since. Brianna is passionate about education and working with at-risk students, she loves getting to work with kids each day! She enjoys gushing over her boys, reading, staying active, and visiting California to see her family every chance she gets.

Sarah Bengtson

Sarah is a proud Iowa native who currently lives in North Liberty with her husband Jonathan and their 2 sons, Aaron and Isaiah.  She grew up in rural Benton county and moved to the Iowa City area in 2005 to attend graduate school at the University of Iowa in Physical Therapy.  She and her husband met at Luther College when they were both undergraduate students, but they did not begin to date until after she returned from service as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Honduras in 2004.  They married in 2007 and welcomed Aaron to the family in 2012.  Isaiah made his appearance in 2015 on Christmas day, making them a family of four.  She loves being a “boy mom” as well as her day job as a pediatric physical therapist.  Along with work and family life, Sarah loves music, playing her cello, running, baking, crochet, church activities, cheering for the Hawkeyes and the Minnesota Vikings, and photography. 

Angelica Brothers

Angelica was raised in West Liberty just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the Iowa City. After getting married to her high school sweetheart and living in the D.C. metro area, they decided it was not where they wanted to raise a family, and moved back five years ago to West Liberty. Nine months later they welcomed their daughter with only three hours to prepare. (She went the whole 40 weeks without knowing she was pregnant! Her daughter is now four years old and going to preschool. Aside from being a mommy, Angelica works full-time while going to school full-time. To help keep herself sane, she runs early in the morning five days a week. Last year she got the courage and ran the Quad Cities Marathon! It was the second hardest thing she’s ever done, next to giving birth. In addition to running, Angelica likes to read, cook, garden, fish, camp, and spend time with her family. She’s a Pinterest and bargain shopping addict! Overall she loves being a wife and a mom with the adventures that it brings.

Jess Bryant

Jess is an Iowa native, Solon HS alumni, and proud CCA Clipper, currently residing near Oxford. Wife to Rex and mama to three blue eyed babies- Tyler (12), Max (4) and Evelyn (1)- all living in the country with 3 dogs and 3 rabbits. Jess is a SAHM, operating a small in-home child care group and currently working towards her degree in education. She is an AU-SOME mom, as her son Max has autism. When she’s not swaying to 90’s country music with babies on her hips, she’s in the middle of a house update project/reorganization. Her family loves being outside in their own backyard playground or the local children’s museum. 

Megan Burns

Megan, an Iowa native from West Branch, shares her home with husband Cody, two adorable kiddos Charlie and Gwen and their pet dust bunnies. When she is not smooching on them she is trying to change lives as a social worker. You can find her running endless errands in Liza the mini(van) or on a hot date with her treadmill watching IPTV. Since having baby #2 she is drowning in laundry and love and someday hopes to foster or adopt if fate will allow.

Dawn Clark

Dawn lives life to play! Wife to Bryan and mother of four (ages 13, 10, 8, and 4,) she finds what she most enjoys and does it. Bryan tells people she hates a blank calendar; Dawn says she loves a colorful one. With a BA in Theatre and a certificate in Performing Arts Entrepreneurship from the University of Iowa, Dawn has successfully run two business and volunteered on numerous community theatre Boards of Directors. She currently colors in her calendar with Jamberry Nails appointments and parties, Chamber Singers of Iowa City rehearsals, Girls on the Run practices, Dreamwell Theatre Board meetings, and as many dates with friends as she can. Dawn is passionate about respect and intentional choices. She loves coffee with cream, a good wheat beer, seeing someone discover something for the first time, and Young Adult fantasy fiction.

Sara Connell

Sara is a NW Iowa native who moved across the state to become a Hawkeye! After her time at the U of I, she left for optometry school and residency before coming home to Iowa to start her “adult” life in Coralville. She was in clinical practice for 5 years before trying her hand at the research side of eye care, working on clinical trials in the pharma/biotech industry. Sara is a wife, mom to a 5-year-old boy, and step-mom to four teenagers! Because her son was born at 25 weeks and had a lengthy NICU stay, Sara is passionate about all things related to prematurity, especially parent support in the NICU. She loves connecting with fellow NICU moms, both online and in person. Sara also enjoys spending time with friends and extended family, reading, scrapbooking, organizing, knitting, travel, keeping up with tech trends, finding new wines to enjoy, honing her photography skills, and serving on the Family Advisory Council for UI Children’s Hospital. She’s a consultant for Jamberry Nails, too, which lets her dabble in her creative side.

Kate Degner

Kate is the mom to Jack (2006), Liz (2007), and Alice (2011) and an avid Cubs fan through marriage. She’s an assistant professor of mathematics and STEM education at St. Ambrose University and also moonlights as a mathematics teacher at South East Junior High in Iowa City. Between soccer, running club, tumbling, and piano lessons she likes to cook, run, and do yoga. She’s also a sucker for 5Ks with cool swag and awesome medals.

Brenda Delsing

I am a small town Iowa girl who is loving life in the Iowa City area. I graduated from The University of Northern Iowa with a degree in Elementary and Middle Level education. I moved to the Iowa City area for my first teaching job and never looked back. It is here in Iowa City where I met my husband, Robert, married him, and we started our family. After our oldest was born, I left the classroom to be a stay at home mommy. We are the parents of three; Gabe (April 2013), Maggie (April 2015), and Julianna (September 2017). In addition to being a stay at home mom, I also substitute teach occasionally. I have many hobbies and interests. I love to be active by running and working out. I also enjoy spending time with friends and family, trying new recipes, playing board and card games and being involved in church. I am a sports enthusiast and enjoy cheering on the Hawkeyes, UNI Panthers, and the Chicago Cubs. I feel grateful for our little family. Life as a mom of three is busy and chaotic, but I wouldn’t have it any other way

Sherri Erkel

Sherri is a transplant from Oregon who came to be a Hawkeye in 2006 and stayed for the sweet corn…and for the Iowa boy she met along the way! She and her husband (Kyle) have a 6 year old daughter, Aissa, a self-described “horse-crazy” girl. She earned her Ph.D. in Higher Education and Student Affairs at The University of Iowa and works at St. Ambrose University in Davenport as the Director of First Year Experience. When she’s not working, you can find her with her family, enjoying Iowa City and cheering on the Hawkeyes.


Sharon Falduto

Sharon is a Central Iowa native who came to University of Iowa in 1991 and essentially never left the area. She is involved in local community theater, notably as one of the co-founders of Iowa City’s Dreamwell Theatre. She has also directed children’s plays with the Young Footliters group. Sharon is the English Department Coordinator at Kirkwood Community College. She lives in Coralville with her husband, Matt, and three daughters Rachel, Sammi, and Piper.

Meghann Foster

Meghann is the mom of 5 kids ranging in age from toddler to teenager. She works as the Marketing and Events Manager at Brand Driven Digital. She currently is working toward earning her Master’s Degree in Strategic Communications from Washington State University. Meghann is also a certified yoga instructor. In her free time, she enjoys teaching and practicing yoga and taking Cross Fit classes.

Caroline Jens

Caroline is an Arizona native who moved to Iowa in 2007 ‘for love’ and never looked back. She and her husband live in Coralville with their 6-year-old daughter. Caroline works full-time at the University of Iowa and recently earned her MA in Higher Education Administration. Caroline is a self-taught sewer, fabric hoarder, Starbucks lover, wannabe graphic designer, and avid reader. Her greatest aspirations are to raise a kind, strong, and fearless girl and have a clean house.

Becky Julson

Becky is a Minnesota Native and Wisconsin Badger fan living in the heart of Hawkeye Country. Since graduating from high school, she has lived in Duluth, MN; Birmingham, UK; Minneapolis, MN; Louisville, KY; and Madison, WI, but is now happy to call Iowa City home. She and her husband have been married for ten years and have a spirited four-year-old daughter and a mischievous baby boy. Becky juggles working from home and keeping two kids happy each and every day. In her free time, she enjoys working her side business, spending time with friends, relaxing with a good book, and eating snacks.

Chelsie Kammeyer

Chelsie lives in Durant with her Fiancé, Joe, their Daughter (1), Stepson (7), and Stepdaughter (5). She grew up in Northeast Iowa making her way to Iowa City to attend the University of Iowa were she earned her B.F.A. in Graphic Design. She currently works at Phelps Uniform Specialists in Muscatine as the Design and Marketing Coordinator. When she isn’t spending quality time with her family, she likes to enjoy some of her favorites including: watching Hawkeye Football (and Packers!), reading lots and lots of books, drinking all the coffee, camping, running, and finding new outlets to be creative.

Katie Linder

Katie is a first-time mama to the very sweet, Sadie Beth Linder. She became acquainted with Iowa City as an undergraduate student at the University of Iowa where she graduated in 2012 with degrees in Journalism and Political Science, and is currently on track to complete her Masters Degree in Strategic Communication in December 2017. Katie and her husband met and fell in love at the UI, and decided to never leave it. She is a former newsie, who currently works in local government as a professional communicator – and absolutely adores it. You can find the Linder trio eating their way through downtown, walking in City Park, enjoying a live show at Hancher, or cheering on their beloved Hawkeyes at live sporting events. Katie loves eating desert, consuming news, and binging Netflix. She has a coffee addition, and undertakes cardiovascular activity like a child eating vegetables.

Brigette Marshall

Brigette lives in North Liberty with her husband Brian, energetic daughter Kate (October 2014) and their two cats, Penny and Olive. Originally from the Chicago suburbs, Brigette came to Iowa City to attend the journalism school at the University of Iowa, fell in love with the area, and decided she couldn’t leave. After meeting Brian while working at the same Iowa City restaurant in college, they got married in August 2015 in the heart of downtown. She works full time in project management and as an employee of the Core Fitness Kids Club while finishing her MBA at Upper Iowa University. In her free time, she drags Kate out garage sale-ing, tries to keep up with her reading list and runs, lives for Hawkeye football season, enjoys a good meal on a patio, runs her Bachelor/Bachelorette bracket with her family and friends, and of course, chases her daughter around the pool and the park.

Amber Monat

Amber has called Iowa home all her life. She and her husband Jeremy live on an acreage just south of Traer where they raise their 6 blue eyed, blonde haired babes. Amber is a stay at home mama to 3 girls ages 12, 9, & 4 and 3 boys ages 2,1, & 7 months. Amber earned an AAS in Early Childhood Education at Hawkeye Community College. She also spent 9 years in the Iowa Army National Guard. Amber is always busy attending Redhawk sporting events, 4­H meetings, teaching RE classes at St. Paul, reading stories, playing house, cooking, feeding various animals, & running around after her kids. In her spare time (ha!) she likes to can produce out of the huge garden her husband plants every year, read a book to the end, watch a good movie (that she normally falls asleep in the middle of) and spend time with Jeremy, which is normally at Iowa Hawkeye Wrestling Meets! Go Hawks!

Katie Moorhead

Katie is an Iowa City native and a proud graduate of City High and The University of Iowa. She now lives in Tiffin with her husband, Chris, son Daniel (5) and daughter Natalie (2). She loves spending her days at home with her kids and when she is not in full on mommy mode she enjoys working out at her favorite gym and helping others reach their health and wellness goals. Katie loves the Hawks and the Cubs and even turned her love for baseball into a career for 6 years with the Iowa Cubs in Des Moines. Hobbies include repeating herself several times to 2 tiny humans, snuggling tiny humans, singing with tiny humans, dancing with tiny humans, and sleeping when the tiny humans allow it.

Laura Portier Lalumiere

Laura is a mom of three who works full time from home as a Development Director for a children’s charity. She is married to her college sweetheart, Ryan, and they have been sharing life’s adventures for nearly 15 years now. A Maryland native who spent her 20s living in Southern California and South Carolina, Laura moved to Iowa City with her family in 2010. With a 3rd grader, kindergartener, and toddler in the house, the action is non-stop! On a good day, Laura can be found raising lots of money for programs for at-risk kids, baking up some delicious treats, reading with her kids, or writing silly stories for her daughter Anna to read. On a not so good day, Laura can be found praying for sleep, eating lots of chocolate in hopes that the sugar will compensate for the lack of sleep, and wondering if anyone will notice whatever it is that her toddler just smeared on her last clean shirt. Whatever kind of day it is, Laura is glad to be having it here in Iowa City with her much-loved little family.

Susie Regan

Susie is a native of Skokie, IL and a University of Iowa grad. She met her husband Matt in college and after eleven years living in New York, Illinois and Texas, they returned to Iowa City with a two kids and a dog. It has been fun to get reacquainted with the area and learn more about what Iowa City has to offer to kids and families. Susie is mom to Johnny (3) and Grant (1), and works full time at the University of Iowa Pomerantz Career Center. In her free time, she enjoys reading, baking and volunteering.

Mary Swanson

Mary, a native of Rockford, Illinois, attended DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois where she received her BA in Secondary Art Education. In 2007, she moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa after accepting a position as a high school visual arts teacher with the Cedar Rapids Community School District. She and her husband, Collin, who is a teacher in the Iowa City Community School District, reside in Cedar Rapids with their daughters, Zoey and Munroe. Zoey is five and Munroe will be turning one in October 2016. In addition to being a full time mommy, full time teacher, and writer for the mom’s blog, she is also a professional artist who has shown and published works both nationally and internationally. Mary enjoys traveling, painting, and most of all, spending time with her family.

Linda Varvel

Linda is a Michigan native who moved to Iowa City in 2011 when she was pregnant with her first child. She works three days a week at the University as the Co-Director for the Women in Science and Engineering program, and spends the other two days with her two children: daughter Quinn (5 ½) and son Isaac (2 ½), where they enjoy playing at home and going to favorite Iowa City hang outs. Jacob, Linda’s husband of either years, is a Nebraska native and completes their family. Together, Linda and her family enjoy cheering for the Nebraska Cornhuskers (shhhh!), going on adventures both big and small, and playing board games (they have over 80 and will play with anyone they can talk into it). Linda is often told she has two volumes: on and off, and she will enthusiastically respond to any news you tell her. No matter the volume she uses, Linda is an “old soul” with a love for baking, embroidery, and old movies.

Mandy Webber

Mandy welcomed her Rainbow Baby, Brooke Lynn, October 2016 and has been enjoying all that motherhood has to offer since. A North Liberty native, Mandy has spent almost her entire life in the Corridor. She took a brief hiatus and lived in Chicago for 5 years where she met her fun-loving husband, Tom. For work, Mandy is building a Corporate Innovation program to give Iowa businesses the tools they need to digest and implement new concepts. She recently named her passion for helping others by founding Huddle Line, a side hustle consulting company that works with local businesses to create unique game plans to achieve their goals. Mandy loves to spend time with loved ones, play and watch sports, hours of euchre, crochet, and bonfires. 2 things that will always win Mandy over? Cupcakes & corny jokes

Nikki Wildemuth

Nikki is new to the area. She graduated from the Western Illinois University-Quad Cities Campus in 2009 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education. She married her husband the same year. Nikki loved the creativity of teaching and continues to bring that same creativity as a stay at home mom. During the day you can find her chasing after her precocious toddler. By night she is a Pinterest junkie! She enjoys getting out and spending time with her family!

Meg Willett

Meg is a transplant to the Midwest. Originally a Louisiana native, Meg moved to Iowa with her family in the summer of 2016 for her husband’s residency program. She and Addison have two daughters: Adrienne, born December 2016, and Kate, born November 2013. Meg is a University of Richmond grad with about 10 years experience in PR, government affairs and community outreach. She is currently a SAHM trying to figure out her next career move. In the meantime, volunteering, dancing, exploring Iowa City, trying to stay sane in winter and marveling at how pleasant summer is keep her busy.

Anne Wilmoth

Anne is a kinda crunchy, kinda unapologetically corner-cutting mom who has lived in Iowa City since 2004. She is a graduate student in Library and Information Science at the University of Iowa and works in the Children’s Services department at the Iowa City Public Library. Before going back to school, she was a stay-at-home mom to her two daughters for several years, and took her children to the library multiple times a week. Basically, she has lived at the library for about a decade. Which is fine, because her biggest passion in life is books. When not reading, Anne also enjoys hiking, low-budget road-tripping, and drinking craft beer on a patio.
